The recent murder of San Franciscan, Kate Steinle, by a seven-time documented felon and fivetime deported illegal alien has finally focused long overdue attention on the “sanctuary” policies of over 300 American cities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. But the murder of Ms. Steinle is hardly an isolated event. These insidious sanctuary policies are directly responsible for criminal victimization of thousands of our fellow citizens at the hands of illegal aliens.

And, of course, the Obama administration has adopted what is essentially a nationwide sanctuary policy by refusing to enforce many aspects of existing immigration law. In fact, in 2010 it proudly announced it would forego legal action against sanctuary jurisdictions.

It’s absurd for a city or state to adopt a policy of refusing to obey federal law. Wasn’t ignoring federal law the policy of southern segregationists trying to thwart federal civil rights laws and against whom the National Guard was called out? And isn’t this what some Kentucky county clerks and officials in other states are doing in refusing to issue same sex marriage licenses and against whom the ACLU is taking legal action?

These sanctuary policies also contribute to a loss of respect for the law generally. Our citizens have to obey the law. Why should our state and local governments ignore the law, especially for the benefit of illegal aliens? Government at all levels has a duty to enforce the law, especially where non-enforcement is literally killing our fellow citizens. In fact, Ms. Steinle’s killer admitted that he was in San Francisco because of its sanctuary policies.

And it’s not just in sanctuary cities where our citizens have fallen prey to illegal alien criminals. The total collapse of federal immigration enforcement has led to the deaths of many of our fellow Kentuckians at the hands of illegal aliens, such as:

• Local attorney Mark Hinkle, five-year old Blake Cohorn, of Lexington, and Wanda Beach, of Pulaski County, all killed in just the last 3 years by illegal aliens driving drunk;
• Douglas Saylor, of Lexington, murdered in June 2012 by an illegal alien ; and
• For those with a longer memory, UK student Chris Maier, killed in Lexington in 1997 by the infamous illegal alien, Angel Resendiz, aka the “Railroad Killer”.

And these aren’t isolated cases of illegal alien criminality in Kentucky. Records of the Fayette County Detention Center obtained by Americans First disclose that since 2010 over 1,200 illegal aliens have been booked into that facility for murder, kidnapping, rape and felonious assault, among other crimes.

Despite the efforts of illegal alien apologists and open borders advocates to conceal it, an illegal alien crime wave is sweeping America. Consider these staggering facts:

• According to a 2011 study by the GAO based on FBI statistics, illegal aliens commit murder at nearly 10 times the rate of all U.S. inhabitants.
• Illegals account for only 3.5% of U.S population, but represented 36.7% of federal sentences in 2014 according to the U.S. Sentencing Commission;
• DHS reported in 2014 that legal and illegal immigrants comprise some 20% of prisoners in America;
•According to the March 2015 “ICE Weekly Departures and Detention Report”, 168,680 convicted criminal immigrants subject to removal orders and another 179,018 convicted immigrants with deportation cases pending were at large.
• In 2013 and 2014 the Obama administration released 66,565 criminal illegal immigrants who had 167,059 convictions, including 279 homicide, 799 sexual assault and 489 kidnapping convictions.

And of course, illegally entering our country is itself a crime against which federal authorities take virtually no enforcement action. Government’s first priority is to protect our citizens’ safety.

Instead of creating sanctuaries for illegal aliens, the federal government should end all federal aid to cities with “sanctuary” policies. And American cities and states should turn this diabolical idea on its head and create “citizen sanctuaries” by adopting policies such as:

• Strictly cooperating with federal authorities in enforcing existing immigration law;
• Mandating employer use of the E-Verify system to deny employment to illegal aliens and imposing severe penalties on employers who fail to comply or hire illegal aliens. Cities such as Lexington can legally enact such laws; they are not pre-empted by federal law.
• Adopting a law like that in Fremont, Nebraska requiring landlords to verify legal status of all tenants or be fined;
• Denying driver’s licenses to illegal aliens and increasing criminal penalties for driving without a license or insurance, or under the influence; and
• Cutting off all welfare benefits and other financial assistance to illegal aliens. Our nation exists for the benefit of our citizens, not illegal aliens.

It’s time our governments enacted policies to protect our citizens from illegal alien criminals who have no right to even be in our country.

Americans First conducted an investigation into the voter registration process in Kentucky and uncovered a frightening amount of holes in the process that are open to fraudulent registrations. The full analysis can be read by CLICKING HERE. Americans First has also taken initial legal steps towards demanding that the Ky Board of Elections examine its voter rolls and purge all unqualified voters. Until then, Kentucky residents can have little faith in the integrity of our electoral process.

UPDATE:  Americans First was contacted by the Ky Attorney General office and they requested the findings of our recent investigation into potential illegally registered voters that we identified.   We will post updates as they become available.

2015 will be an exciting year for Americans First. With our website and social media efforts on Facebook we are continually bringing our supporters and the public news and opinions on issues affecting our fellow citizens. We hope to enhance those platforms during the year. If you would be interested in contributing to those efforts please contact us at info@AmericansFirst.org

Americans First also intends to support and sponsor public events and activism when the need arises. We welcome your input on that as well.

Americans First is also focused on in-depth investigation and exposure of problems in our government and society harming our citizens. One of our many issues is voter fraud and election integrity.

On that front Americans First undertook an investigation similar to what other states have done to check the integrity of the voter registration rolls in Kentucky.  The results to date are alarming and we feel they warrant further review.  We have shared our findings with the office of Secretary of State Allison Grimes and asked that her office investigate. We are awaiting her response before proceeding further or sharing the details of our findings publicly.

We will keep you advised of developments regarding our investigation and Secretary Grimes’ response.

Again, if you would like to get more involved with Americans First or have any questions, comments or suggestions please contact us.

“Our Immigration System is Broken” drones on repeatedly like a worn out Christmas tune from a choir of establishment politicians accompanied by the mainstream media and was parroted by President Obama himself as justification for his executive action granting “amnesty” to millions of illegal immigrants. On the contrary, America’s immigration system is not broken, just our government’s will to enforce it.  The problems with immigration, both legal and illegal, are simply the direct and predictable result of our existing laws being ignored .

Defenders of Obama’s executive action claim that families are being torn apart by existing immigration law that requires deportation of illegal immigrants with children born in the U.S.. But our laws already favor family reunification for legal immigrants. In the last decade over 600,000 immigrants were allowed into our country annually as “family sponsored” immigrants. But to protect our citizens, existing immigration law requires background checks of those immigrants.

Our immigration system is, however, backlogged and lacking resources for current laws to be properly enforced. Kenneth Palinkas, representative for the 12,000 INS agents tasked with screening immigrants to ensure that terrorists, criminals and diseases are kept out of the United States, recently warned that agents are so overwhelmed they are simply “rubber stamping” applications to keep up with their required quotas.  He warned that the executive action will make things “exponentially worse.” American citizens thus have good reason to be worried about only cursory examinations of people entering our country. If legal immigrants are not being properly screened, how will millions more illegal immigrants, many with little to no documentation of their personal history, be properly screened by a system already overburdened?

Although President Obama said illegal immigrants with felony convictions would be deported, does any sane person think that an illegal immigrant convicted of a felony is going to willingly submit to a background check?  Even if one did, there are already 900,000 illegal immigrants who have been ordered deported yet are still in our country.  Why would our citizens have any faith that newly discovered illegal immigrant criminals would be deported with such a backlog of persons already subject to unenforced deportation orders?

Another purported rationale for the executive action is that it will increase tax revenue from illegal immigrants issued work permits and Social Security numbers.  Quite the opposite will occur. The latest analysis by Heritage Foundation poverty expert Robert Rector pegs the net cost —total benefits minus total taxes paid in — of the amnesty recipients will be around $2 trillion over the course of their lifetimes. Looking back, the Treasury Departments’ Inspector General issued a report in 2012 showing that in just that one year $4.2 billion dollars flowed from the federal treasury to illegal immigrants in the form of refunds under the Additional Child Tax Credit.  Prior executive actions granting amnesty also cost taxpayers, just as this one will. The 1986 amnesty by President Reagan cost taxpayers $76 billion ($164 billion in 2012 dollars adjusted for inflation) more than additional tax revenues generated, according to the CBO report that followed that amnesty.

Most importantly, President Obama’s executive action is a catastrophe for working American citizens.  The law of supply and demand can’t be repealed, even by executive order. With a labor participation rate of 63%, the lowest in 37 years, adding nearly 5 million illegal immigrants to the labor pool defies economic common sense. The vast majority of low-skilled jobs illegal immigrants will fill currently require proof of citizenship and background checks.  Security guards, janitorial workers, municipal waste collectors, and other jobs that require bonding or background checks will now be available to illegal immigrants, taking jobs from American citizens and further depressing wages for the entire lower and middle class working population of American citizens.  President Obama’s executive action will literally be taking food out of the mouths of American citizens and their families.

Our nation’s government was elected by, and owes its allegiance to, our fellow citizens. President Obama’s executive action granting amnesty to illegal immigrants and his refusal to enforce our existing immigration laws represent nothing less than a wholesale betrayal of his duty to American citizens.

In an open letter CLICK HERE regarding President Obama’s imminent Executive Action to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants currently in the U.S., Kenneth Palinkas who represents over 12,000 immigration agents responsible for screening applicants to ensure that terrorists, diseases, criminals, and other undesirable groups are kept out of the United States., is urging citizens to voice their opposition to such a plan. “Whether it’s the failure to uphold the public charge laws, the abuse of our asylum procedures, the admission of Islamist radicals, or visas for health risks, the taxpayers are being fleeced and public safety is being endangered on a daily basis.” he writes.  In addition, he states  “I write today to warn the general public that this situation is about to get exponentially worse -and more dangerous”

Even more chilling is his closing remark, “That is why this statement is intended for the public: if you care about your immigration security and your neighborhood security, you must act now to ensure that Congress stops this unilateral amnesty. Let your voice be heard and spread the word to your neighbors. We who serve in our nation’s immigration agencies are pleading for your help – don’t let this happen. Express your concern to your Senators and Congressmen before it is too late.”
